Last Sunday my family and I ventured to our first truly Chinese restaurant since we've come to China.
We have been here for several weeks, but have been sticking to home cooking and many Western-style and Japanese restaurants.
"Why the heck are you doing that? You're in China! eat Chinese food everyday! It's amazing!"
You are right...
Chinese food is amazing. It's delicious and there is a wide variety.
It also uses peanuts as a main ingredient in many dishes. Many Chinese dishes are also prepared using peanut oil.
That's a tasty thing right?
"YES it is!"
BUT...
Our daughter has a potentially fatal peanut allergy. She has been rushed to the Emergency Room on several occasions when she started to go into anaphylactic shock. We simply didn't want to risk things.
BUT...
My wife had read about an amazing steamed dumpling restaurant in our area of Beijing that sounded great. We then heard our new coworkers talk about the place so we decided to check it out.
Last Sunday we ventured to Baoyuan Dumplings 宝源饺子屋 in the Chaoyang District (Embassy District) where we live.
The menu is in Chinese, but there is English too. It was obvious that many foreign residents and travellers frequent the place.
We ordered a variety of dumplings (far more than we could handle) and all four of us were impressed. My kids who are normally unadventurous eaters loved the dumplings. My wife and I were really happy too.
We will be going back very soon.

Allergies are scary. Glad y'all were able to find a place your daughter could enjoy.
